Menter Iaith Conwy is a community organisation that support and promote the use of Welsh over Conwy county.
Just over a year ago Menter Iaith Conwy purchased the old HSBC Bank on the square in Llanrwst. By now The Old Bank has become the home of Menter Iaith Conwy, Mentrau Iaith Cymru and Cyfieithu Cymunedol, a translation company established by Menter Iaith Conwy to provide translations service locally. In total, there are 15 people working from the Old Bank. With development this came significant electricity use.
The latest stage of the banks re-development was to fit a 4kw PV system on the roof. This will now save money for the social enterprise as well as reduce their carbon footprint.
The panels were funded by a range of grants RCDF (Rural Capital Development Fund) from the Welsh Government, and from the Naturesave Trust.
As the office is mainly used during the day, they will be able to benefit by using the electricity that is produced directly. Meirion Davies, Menter Iaith Conwy’s Development Director said:
”We are grateful for the grant support as it will save us money that we can re-invest in community projects as well as responding to the challenge of climate change”.
