The Masbro Centre, run by the charity Urban Partnership Group, is a community centre in the heart of Hammersmith & Fulham. The centre provides services for the whole community from a children’s centre, to parenting support, a youth club, adult education and a programme of activities for elders, as well as providing space for arts and fitness activities.
The Naturesave Trust donation helped the Masbro Centre to install solar panels on the roof of the centre, enabling it to generate approximately 19,000kwh of green electricity per year. It is estimated that this investment will lead to savings of £65k over 20 years, which will be spent on the upkeep of the Masbro and community projects. There will also be a reduction in CO2 emissions of over 11,000kg each year.
The Masbro Centre’s key aim is to help to protect the planet and serve the people of Hammersmith and Fulham, especially those who suffer from inequality and social exclusion.
Andy Sharpe, Chief Executive of UPG, stated “I can’t thank Naturesave Trust enough for their generous pledge. Community organisations rely on the generosity of organisations like these, and it is great that they have recognised the long-term impact such a contribution can make both the to Centre and the environment”.
