Naturesave are long running specialists in non-standard home insurance
Houses that are designed to reduce energy consumption and heat loss, often use materials and construction techniques less familiar to many insurers, who classify them as non-standard construction. The same applies to older properties, such as listed buildings.
Non-standard insurance is required for homes that are made from (what insurers consider) unusual materials or methods of construction. What they have in common is that they are unique, and as such require specialist insurance cover. Non-standard generally means homes that are not made from brick or stone and do not have a traditional tiled or slated roof. Instead these homes are more likely to have a corrugated metal roof and timber cladding or render. To most insurers such buildings potentially carry more risk in terms of repair or replacing parts of the property. This is due to the materials involved and, also because there is less historical data available to provide certainty.
Naturesave is a specialist in non-standard home insurance and has provided cover for houses featured on Grand Designs, as well as many other eco-homes and non-standard buildings. Our support this sector comes from a belief that it is imperative that the groundbreaking and innovative eco or low carbon homes of today, become the standard construction techniques of tomorrow.
For properties using solar panels, Naturesave offers cover as standard, for material damage (including storm, fire, lightning and theft) and public liability. Additionally, we offer mechanical breakdown and loss of revenue, making our solar panel cover the most comprehensive available. Please note that mechanical breakdown cover is limited to solar PV post 2009 MCS approval.
