Clothes Swap Events Provide A Supportive Space for Families

The team at It Takes a Village – Plymouth were delighted to start 2024 with a grant from the Naturesave Trust, to support their Pop Up Swap & Shop project.

The grant funding covered some of the costs of events which take place in community hubs in the city. These events enable people to buy or to swap their unwanted clothes for good quality, affordable clothing and shoes for themselves and their families. Alongside the swapping and shopping, the team also run activities for children and provide a safe, supportive space for parents to have a cuppa and a chat about the challenges they’re facing.

Claire Strudwick, one of the founders of It Takes a Village, said: “This amazing grant from the Naturesave Trust will enable us to continue doing our bit to tackle the impact of both the climate crisis AND the cost of living crisis within our community.

“We now have the funds and security to run several more Swap & Shop events, supporting HUNDREDS more people, helping DOZENS of families to access clothes, items and support that they need, and potentially finding new homes or purposes for THOUSANDS of items of clothing and textiles.”

Co-founder, Layla Stringer, added: “We are really excited about the next few months, and this simply wouldn’t be possible without the Naturesave Trust supporting our project and helping us to make a difference in our community.
