Projects Funded by The Naturesave Trust

In addition to individual projects, a proportion of The Naturesave Trust's funds is used to pay for Environmental Performance Reviews and Surveys

The Naturesave Trust has funded over 170 individual projects over the last 15 years, including renewable energy initiatives, wildlife conservation and management, recycling projects and sustainable transport projects.

 

Examples of recent projects funded include:

 

Life Cycle UK – Bike Kitchen: Informal bicycle maintenance workshops run in communities to teach people in disadvantaged communities how to maintain and repair their bikes and keep them in a roadworthy condition

The Greenhouse Trust – Exhibition Leaflets:   Printing of information sheets for about climate change, renewable energy, insulation and other practical applications of sustainable development.

TINWOLF – Festival Recycling: Provision of equipment to enable volunteers to help with the recycling at the 2009 Hyde Park Unity Day festival in Leeds .

Better Tomorrows – Steyning Plastic Bag Free Campaign: Campaign to make Steyning in West Sussex a plastic bag free town by providing all 3000 households In Steyning with reusable bags.

Unity Wind Ltd – Ecological Survey: Naturesave provided investment to enable Unity Wind Ltd to conduct an ecological survey for a community wind turbine project at North Walsham in Norfolk .

Bourneville Village Trust – Green & Pleasant Land Project :   A project to support the provision of community allotments for local residents suffering economic hardship, adults with a learning disabilities, young people and elderly disabled.   Naturesave helped by providing tools and wildlife habitats.

 

Food Ethics Council – Ethical Primer for Food Businesses: Production of a printed booklet introducing key ideas in ethics and providing businesses with a   framework to make better, fairer decisions.


Impact Housing - Fanplastic: Plastic recycling project which involves transforming everyday domestic plastic waste into reusable materials that can then be made into products such as key fobs, clipboards and notebooks, thus reducing landfill and encouraging people to see plastic as a reusable resource.

BHMAT – Coppice Apprentice: Funding towards the employment of an apprentice to become coppice workers to address the shortage of skilled coppice workers in the North West .

 

Bumblebee Conservation Trust – Bumblebee Recording Scheme: Project to set up long term monitoring of bumblebees so that conservation measures can be targeted at the species most in need.   The Trust helped pay for a kit to enable volunteers to get involved monitoring bumblebee populations.

 

The Trails Trust – New Website: Funding towards a new website for the organisation, enabling The Trails Trust to expand regionally and create more trails and wildlife corridors for cyclists, walkers and riders.


The Hydrogen Office – Education Pilot Scheme: Project to develop a pilot education programme with workshops and competitions which allow investigation and exploration of renewable technologies and energy storage.   Naturesave funded the purchase of fuel cell car kits and fuel cell electrolyser kits.

 

Devon Wildlife Trust – Halsdon Woodland Recovery Programme: Project to restore area of woodland at the Halsdon Nature Reserve and reinstate original coppicing and woodland management, creating an open, diverse wildlife habitat.

 

In addition to individual projects, a proportion of The Naturesave Trust's funds is used to pay for Environmental Performance Reviews – environmental surveys - for all Naturesave Insurance Commercial Combined policy holders, encouraging them to adopt more environmentally friendly business practices.

The Naturesave Trust has also set up a 'Naturesave Grove' of native trees in the Caledonian Forest in Scotland, planting a tree as a gift for every Naturesave household policy holder who has been a client for 10 years or more, as a thank you for continued support.  For more information, click here.
